Nasrallah suffocated to death from toxic fumes inside bunker: Report

An Israeli media outlet has claimed that Hassan Nasrallah, the elusive chief of the Iran-backed Hezbollah, was suffocated to death after toxic fumes leaked into his secret bunker following the massive airstrike on the militant group’s headquarters in Beirut on September 27.
In its report, Israel’s Channel 12 said Nasrallah’s bunker caved-in as a result of the airstrike, causing the 64-year-old to “die in agony”.
Breathing inside the bunker became impossible as it was filled with toxic fumes and heavy smoke due to explosions that were triggered after 80 tonnes of bunker-buster bombs were dropped on his hideout, the report added.
The latest development came days after media reports suggested that the former Hezbollah chief’s body was intact, with no visible injuries, when it was recovered from the attack site.
Sources told the Reuters news agency that the absence of external injuries indicated that he likely died from blunt force trauma.
The Lebanese militant group has not yet commented on what actually caused Nasrallah’s death.
Nasrallah death has only intensified the cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah since the Jewish nation’s war with Hamas erupted on October 7, 2023.
Last month, thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon exploded, killing nearly 40 people with more than 3,000 others injured.
More than 1,000 people have died in the past two weeks in Lebanon amid the latest escalation, while up to a million others are likely to have been displaced.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military announced the beginning of “limited” ground raids in Lebanon against Hezbollah targets and infrastructure that “pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities”.
